The core business relies on submitting detailed RFP documents to school districts in order to win new contracts. These 150-page bids outline our entire offering and directly support the company’s main source of revenue. Over time, the RFP design had become an inconsistent mixture of different eras of Zūm’s brand, pieced together by members of the sales, marketing, and leadership teams. As the Brand Design Lead, I had been looking for opportunities to address our identity system more holistically, which would allow our team to work faster and smarter. It was important to alleviate pain points experienced by the sales team, such as the template becoming unorganized or having uneditable text. The design should stand out from our competitors, position us as a thought leader, and catalyze decisions about our typography and patterns. By using this project to test new brand elements, we were able to successfully push our whole identity system forward. We added an expressive typeface to our palette and developed ownable patterns based on our school bus fleet. We won the first contract that our new RFP design was used for, and the sales team confirmed that the updated template doc improved upon the pain points they had outlined for us in the research phase. In addition to updating and redesigning dozens of print and digital assets, I was responsible for creating most pages on our new brand guidelines website. I worked with design leads Lauren Allik and Liz Tran, who had made great progress on the foundations. With the leadership of our Senior Creative Director, Tina Hardison, I owned the development of the guidelines, building out core pages by structuring the content, creating assets, and writing the supporting copy. In 2020, we asked how to connect when we can’t gather physically. To help answer this, we came up with the theme “Work in Progress.” We’d all been working on, and through, so much that year, not just at work but also at home in our personal lives. I partnered with Angie Garland to create an identity for the event, then we expanded that across presenter slides, the website, a swag kit, and more. We designed a broadsheet that included content from our internal digital Design Handbook, and also elements like quotes from our coworkers about their experiences working during the pandemic. impact is more important than ever. Design is a powerful tool, and applying design thinking to climate issues is vital to create lasting solutions.&nbsp; I was excited to get the opportunity to work on our 2020 Social Responsibility Report at Square. It provides an update on the progress of our efforts to operate a responsible and sustainable business while fostering an inclusive environment for everyone from employees to customers.I provided art direction and creative guidance while Angie Garland and Chelsea Lee Kramp designed and illustrated. We wanted to amplify our voice and tone, and reflect the open, dynamic future of Square’s brand. Along with providing feedback throughout Colophon’s process, I had the pleasure of designing a type specimen for the internal rollout. Automatic Role: art direction, design, illustration The team at Automatic created a connected car adapter that could diagnose engine problems, display trip logs and mileage, and even call for help in a crash. For the launch of our third generation adapter, I designed the new packaging to stand out on the shelves at Target, Best Buy, and other major retailers while minimizing waste and using recyclable materials. As a leader in the auto technology space, Automatic hosted various industry events, such as the Summit for Automotive Security. It was a plush, chill-out lounge party created by friends at The Stud, San Francisco’s oldest queer gathering space. The Stud was groundbreaking for its inclusiveness, and Jam welcomed everyone, too. I represented this through playful illustrations and inviting typography. We created an analytics dashboard called Bridge that gave video marketers the insights and transparency to make informed decisions about their campaigns, in realtime and without bias. I led the branding, marketing, and product design from seed funding all the way through to a successful acquisition.&nbsp; As the sole designer, it was my responsibility to advocate for the value of design across all of our touchpoints.
